Painting is part of my ongoing series “Vatsalya” (maternal love).
The inspiration for the painting is from seeing elephants in their natural habitat during our trip to Kerala, India (South India) a few years back. Kerala is home to the largest domesticated population of elephants in India. Painting is a portrayal of the maternal bond between mother and calf.
Painting is done with the influence of Madhubani style of Indian folk art. Style is know for its two dimensional imagnery and negative space is filled with flowers, animals, birds, and geometric designs.
